i’m a flyer, so stretches wise:
- better heel stretch.
- bow & arrow.
- decent scale.
- scorp.
i don’t really tumble at all right now (it’s something my squad seriously lacks), but if i work as hard as possible:
- decent round-off (obvious, but currently mine is shit.)
- back handspring.
- back tuck.
if i went back to uni able to pull a round-off back handspring back tuck i’d be over the moon. i really want to impress my squad after the summer, and considering i have 4/5 months in which to do it i reckon some of it’s achievable; the stretches definitely, if not the tumbling. also, my boyfriend and i are gonna start working on our partner stunting because we’re determined to get more male cheerleaders on the squad and we want to be there stunting when we recruit at fresher’s fair.
but i am really not a massive fan of the trousers thing top gun have going on. they just don’t seem to look as good on the mat, and as a lot of people have pointed out, it’s pretty difficult to spot the difference between the girls and the guys (apart from the flyers, obviously).
seriously hoping it doesn’t become some sort of a trend.
spamming cheer tonight but idgaf. night before comp planning time:
- shower.
- massive stretching sesh whilst i’m warm.
- dry hair.
- bendy rollers in (curly ponytail time!)
- sort uniform.
- sort bag.
- watch cheer film.
- set numerous alarms.
- sleeeeeep!
i have been insanely stressed over this competition. i had a pretty bad fall at training on tuesday from an extension arabesque; my front’s head hit straight into my stomach and i then pretty much faceplanted the floor which was not cool. winded myself for a few minutes but i got straight back up and started flying again. then another flyer fell from a stunt, hit her head on her base’s knee and got a concussion, so we ended up down a flyer.
we’re also down a tonne of other people since last comp for various reasons; we ended up 2 stunt groups down in total, which meant changing our entire opening pyramid and stunt sequence. last night’s training was probably the most stressful few hours of my life.
however, i’ve come to the conclusion that if we do badly then we do badly; we can only do the best we can given the circumstances, and we’re just gonna go out there and fucking enjoy it with massive cheesy cheer smiles on our faces!
we’ve changed around the dance since last week which i don’t have an issue with as it looks fucking awesome. however, we’re down an entire stunt group so we’re having to change our pyramid and our stunt coach wants us to learn an entirely new two and a half high stunt in which i’m the top flyer stood on the leg of our wobbliest flyer. i am stressing.

never done twist cradles before, but i tried them with my stunt group and we hit them amazingly the first time. got it filmed and i cannot stop watching the video, it makes me so happy. i don’t know what the other flyers are making a fuss over. also been doing shows straight up into lib extension and hitting that. on such a high after training tonight, love my stunt group so much!
everyone in my squad’s getting all excited over comp tomorrow; i’m currently listening to cheerxm1 to get myself all pumped up. I CANNOT WAIT!
been shopping for food to last the coach journeys and the whole day (and alcohol for the coach home because it’s the 21st birthday of one of our third years so we’re getting smashed on the way home to celebrate!).
i’ve also spent the afternoon with the boyfriend making cakes for everyone for the coach. people have been making banners and stuff (we’re determined to win the trophy for cheer spirit, purely for the banter), some of the girls have been making our bows, and one girl’s even made friendship bracelets in our nitros colours. there’s just tonnes of motivational stuff going on and it’s making me so happy.
we might not be the most amazing squad ever, and in fairness we probably won’t do all that great, but the thrill we’re gonna get from competing will be amazing. i am so excited for this!
LET’S GO NITROS, LET’S GO!
